EJI Announces Opening of Little Donkey in Downtown Montgomery

EJI is pleased to announce the opening of Little Donkey, a new lunch and dinner option in downtown Montgomery. Pihakis Restaurant Group has brought the Mexican and Soulful Southern menu to downtown, opening the eatery’s second location in Montgomery. Little Donkey opens to the public on Wednesday, June 4.

Little Donkey is located at 378 N. Perry Street across from the Legacy Museum.

Next door at 350 N. Perry Street is Hero, another Pihakis Restaurant Group and popular Birmingham eatery. EJI has invested in building this space close to the Legacy Museum and Legacy Plaza to create more food options for people in downtown Montgomery. We’re thrilled to partner with Pihakis Restaurant Group to open these two new establishments in the space.

“We are extremely excited to create new lunch and dinner options in downtown Montgomery. Little Donkey will bring an exciting menu to visitors and local residents,” said EJI Director Bryan Stevenson. “We are delighted to work with the Pihakis Group on this project and look forward to seeing folks at Little Donkey.”

Little Donkey is a Mexican food restaurant with Southern Soul. The restaurant was opened by Nick Pihakis and Joshua Gentry, whose love and regard for the bold flavors of Mexico inspired the eatery. Mr. Gentry grew up in Birmingham and was always drawn to the flavors of Mexico. He learned to speak Spanish through his work in kitchens, and still shows up to the Little Donkey kitchens ready to help.

Little Donkey’s menus were created in collaboration with cooks from across Mexico and the American South. The roots of regional flavors and techniques, combined with care and hospitality, creates family food, comfort food, party food, and soul food. The menu is wide ranging, starting with chips to share and featuring salads, fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, their famous fried chicken, and more. You can view the downtown Montgomery menu here.

Little Donkey is open from 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and 11 AM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday. It offers lunch and dinner every day of the week.

EJI welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Legacy Sites each year and we have been working to expand the downtown infrastructure needed to accommodate our many guests. EJI is excited to partner with Pihakis Restaurant Group to bring Little Donkey and Hero to downtown Montgomery.
